Ministry of Defence Reviews It’s Strategic Plan 2025
June 14, 2025The Ministry of Defence launched a workshop for the preparation of the Strategic Plan 2025-2029 at the Malima Club House, Uswetakeiyawa today (June 14) This significant event aims to set the direction for national defence priorities and operational excellence over the next five years. Senior officials and planning experts gathered to share insights and lay the foundation for an actionable and forward-looking strategy.
The session began with a welcome note by the Director General (Planning) Mr. R.D. Anura Ranasinghe, followed by an introduction speech by the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha(Retd). Acting Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekera (Retd) addressed the participants and emphasized the critical importance of long-term planning to uphold national security and defence capabilities.
The workshop was structured into three main phases of strategic plan preparation, led by Mr. Monty Ranathunge, former Secretary of the Ministry of Water Supply and the key resource person for the event. The first and second sessions before lunch focused on building the foundational elements of the strategic framework, while the third session after the lunch break emphasized implementation mechanisms and evaluation criteria.
The day concluded with a review and discussion session, providing a platform for participants to offer feedback and refine proposed strategies. This collaborative and well-structured workshop marks a major step forward in aligning defence planning with evolving national and global challenges, ensuring the readiness and resilience of the Sri Lanka defence establishment in the years ahead.
