First Phase of the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport Surrounding
Area Cleaning Project Successfully Completed

Under the guidance of the Ministry of Defence and the instructions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the first phase of the cleaning project at the Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport surrounding area was successfully completed under the supervision of the Chief Field Engineer, Brigadier C.D. Wickramanayake WWV RSP ndc.
As this International Airport is a vital national asset, the cleaning initiative is regarded as a significant national mission aimed at preserving and enhancing this strategic property for the benefit of the entire country.
The project, which commenced on 09 June 2025 concluded on 07 August 2025, was carried out using plant engineering machineries belong to the Sri Lanka Engineers, with the participation of troops of the 6 Field Engineer Regiment.
During this first phase, an area of 78.8 hectares of the airfield premises was cleared.
