80th Vietnam Independence Anniversary and 55 Years of Sri Lanka-Vietnam
Diplomatic Relations Celebrate in Colombo

The 80th Anniversary of the Independence Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, coinciding with the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Sri Lanka, was ceremoniously celebrated at the Hilton Colombo yesterday (Aug 19).

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Hon. Vijitha Herath, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), reflecting the significance both nations place on deepening bilateral ties.

Her Excellency Ms Trinh Thi Tam, Ambassador of Vietnam to Sri Lanka, warmly received the distinguished guests, underscoring the spirit of friendship and cooperation that continues to strengthen relations between the two countries.

The evening was enriched with cultural performances showcasing the vibrancy of Vietnam’s traditions, symbolizing the enduring bonds of heritage and friendship. The event brought together ministers, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, governors, senior officials, commanders of the Sri Lanka Army and Air Force, as well as members of the diplomatic community, highlighting the broad spectrum of engagement between Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

This milestone celebration not only marked Vietnam’s historic journey towards independence but also reaffirmed 55 years of diplomatic partnership, cooperation and cultural exchange between the two nations.
