80th Anniversary of the Victory of Chinese People’s War Celebrates
August 21, 2025The 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti - Fascist War was commemorated yesterday (Aug 20) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
The Chief Guest, Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Hon. (Dr) Upali Pannilage was joined by the Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).
In his address, H.E. Qi Zhenhong, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, reflected on the sacrifices of those who resisted fascism eight decades ago and emphasised the importance of safeguarding peace for future generations.
This ceremony also contributed to further strengthening the longstanding friendship and bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and China.
The event was attended by former presidents, senior ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
