Strengthening Healthcare and Defence Synergy

Minister of Health and Mass Media Hon. (Dr.) Nalinda Jayatissa, accompanied by Deputy Minister of Defence Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) and Defence Secretary and Chairperson of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) Board of Management Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), paid an official visit to the University Hospital of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (UH-KDU) in Werahera yesterday (Sep 2).

The delegation was warmly received by KDU Vice Chancellor Rear Admiral Dhammika Kumara, who guided the distinguished guests through the hospital’s modern facilities. The visit provided a first-hand look at the operational capacity and state-of-the-art medical amenities available at the fully-fledged teaching hospital.

Following the tour, a meeting was convened to engage in meaningful discussions on optimizing the use of available resources. The deliberations emphasized the importance of aligning the hospital’s services with both present healthcare needs and anticipated future demands. The leaders exchanged views on enhancing the hospital’s efficiency, expanding specialized care and strengthening the link between medical education and healthcare delivery.

The visit reflected the collaborative spirit between the health and defence sectors, reaffirming a shared vision of delivering advanced healthcare services while nurturing the next generation of medical professionals.
