Rescue Operations in Ella for Bus Accident Victims

Rescue operations were launched in Ella for the victims of a bus accident that occurred last night (Sep 4).

A bus carrying Tangalle Urban Council employees veered off the road and fell into a precipice between the 23rd and 24th -kilometer posts on the Ella-Wellawaya road.

According to current reports, there were around 30 passengers on the bus. The death toll has now risen to 15, while the others who were rescued are receiving treatment at the Badulla Teaching Hospital.

The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) are conducting continuous search and rescue missions for the missing. SLAF has positioned an MI-17 helicopter and a Bell 412 helicopter to airlift patients to Colombo or to assist with any other rescue operations as needed.

The local residents, emergency services teams and hospital staff also supported the rescue efforts.

The Ministry of Defence remains committed to promptly responding to any emergency situation in the country, providing necessary assistance and helping those affected by disasters.
