Disaster Management Centers' Quarter - Based Integrated Progress Review Meeting Held at the Ministry of Defence

The Quarter-Based Integrated Progress Review Meeting for the Disaster Management Centre, relating to the Second Quarter of 2025, was held today (30 September) at the Ministry of Defence. The meeting was co - chaired by the Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) and the Director General of the Department of Project Management and Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance, Mr. S.S. Mudalige.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of government programs and projects implemented concerning disaster management up to 31 August 2025, to assess the challenges and to formulate necessary strategies for successfully overcoming those challenges.

The event was attended by the Additional Secretary to the President (Development), Mr N.S. Wanasinghe. Also participating were officials representing the Department of Meteorology,  Disaster Management Centre, National Building Research Organization, National Disaster Relief Services Centre, Department of Treasury Operations, Department of National Planning, Department of Management Services and Department of Project Management and Monitoring. Furthermore, several senior officials from the Reduction of Landslide Vulnerability by Mitigation Measures Project (RLVMMP) through stabilization methods, as well as from the Disaster Management Center, were in attendance.

The Ministry of Defence remains consistently committed to developing necessary actions to decentralize disaster management operational tasks to achieve the government's target objectives, enhance coordination among other government ministries and obtain inputs from various state levels for effective program review and implementation.
