MOD Seva Vanitha Unit Organizes a Special Tour for Thalassemia Children to Mark The World Children’s Day
October 05, 2025In commemoration of the World Children’s Day, the Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) organized a special guided tour for the children receiving treatment at the Thalassemia ward of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital today (5 October).
The initiative, spearheaded by the President of the SVU, Dr. Mrs. Ruwini Rasika Perera, was aimed at bringing happiness and inspiration to the lives of these children while broadening their cultural and educational experiences.
During the day-long tour, the children were given the opportunity to visit several historically and culturally significant sites, including the Wax Museum in Kandy, the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), Hanthana Bird Park and the Ceylon Tea Museum.
The visits not only enriched the children’s knowledge of Sri Lanka’s heritage and natural beauty but also created cherished memories beyond the hospital environment.
The MoD SVU continues to engage in welfare initiatives that extend support, care and encouragement to children and families in need, reaffirming its commitment to social responsibility and community service.
