Defence Cyber Command Conducts Cybersecurity
Awareness for State Institutions

The Defence Cyber Command conducted a Cybersecurity Awareness Programme for officers of the Ministry of Public Security, Parliamentary Affairs, and affiliated departments on 15 October (2025) at the “Suhurupaya”, Battaramulla.

The programme was organized under the direction of the Defence Secretary and the Chief of National Intelligence, in parallel with the Government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” Programme, which aims to promote integrity, accountability, and secure digital practices across public institutions.

Representatives of the Defence Cyber Command of the Defence Ministry, including Brigadier Dhammika Vidanalage, (Director Defence Cyber Command), Colonel Darshana Muthugala (Colonel General Staff), Lieutenant Colonel Bandara Herath,(Division Head), Major Sadun Gunawardana (Legal Officer), Lieutenant Commander Meshech Hevawasam (Cyber Security Engineer) and several other personnel, conducted the programme.

Senior officials and IT officers from the Ministry of Public Security, Parliamentary Affairs, Department of Immigration and Emigration, Department of Registration of Persons, Consular Affairs Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Registrar General’s Department, Border Risk Assessment Centre (BRAC), Institute of National Security Studies (INSS), Sri Lanka Police (including the Police Media, Police Clearance Division, and 118 Division), and the officers of security and engineering services branch of the Sri Lanka Army participated at the programme.

The awareness session featured both theoretical and practical components, including live demonstrations on emerging cyber threats, preventive measures, and best practices in cybersecurity. The programme highlighted the importance of strengthening cyber hygiene, secure information management, and inter-agency cooperation in safeguarding Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).

The Defence Cyber Command continues to conduct similar initiatives across government ministries and departments to strengthen the cybersecurity posture of the public sector, supporting the national vision of a safe and digitally empowered Sri Lanka.
