Defence Secretary Joins Solemn Observance of British
Remembrance Day in Colombo

The British Remembrance Day was commemorated with a solemn ceremony at the Commonwealth War Graves, Jawatte Cemetery, Colombo, today (11 November). The event honoured the courage and supreme sacrifice of Commonwealth servicemen who gave their lives during the First and Second World Wars.
Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) attended the ceremony as a distinguished guest, joining representatives from the British High Commission, diplomats, and other dignitaries.
Wreaths were respectfully laid in remembrance of the fallen heroes, followed by the traditional two minutes of silence, observed in deep reflection to honour their memory and sacrifice.
The ceremony was further dignified by the presence of several high-ranking officials and foreign envoys, underscoring the solemn importance of the occasion. Among the distinguished participants were H.E. Andrew Patrick, British High Commissioner, High Commissioners of India and Canada, Ambassadors of France, Germany and Japan along with senior representatives from the United Nations, the Inspector General of Police and senior officials of the Sri Lanka Ex-Servicemen’s Association.
