Troops Facilitate Transport for A/L students & Public in Flooded Neluwa
November 22, 2025Swiftly responding to a flash flood emergency, troops of the 20th Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (20 SLLI) under the 573 Infantry Brigade have launched an operation to assist students appearing for the G.C.E. Advanced Level examinations and the general public in Neluwa, today (Nov 22).
Due to adverse weather conditions, a 150-meter stretch of the Neluwa-Dellawa road in Neluwa Town has been submerged, with water levels rising to approximately three feet, rendering the road impassable for light vehicles.
Recognizing the urgency, particularly for students traveling to examination centers, a contingent of Army personnel (01 Officer and 20 Other Ranks) was immediately deployed to the location. Utilizing Army trucks and tractors, the troops are currently engaged in ferrying students and civilians across the flooded stretch, ensuring uninterrupted movement and public safety.
The relief operation is being conducted under the direct supervision of the Ministry of Defence, Army Headquarters and Commander, 573 Infantry Brigade.
