SL Army 8 SR Troops Launch Search & Rescue Ops Following
Pahala Kadugannawa Landslide

Troops of the Sri Lanka Army 8th Battalion of the Sri Lanka sinha Regiment (8 SR), serving under the 611 Infantry Brigade, have launched an immediate Search and Rescue (SAR) operation following a major landslide in the Pahala Kadugannawa area this morning (22 Nov).
The incident occurred around 0900 hrs in the Ganethanna Grama Niladhari Division (Mawanalla Police Area). The landslide caused total destruction to a house and a hotel in the vicinity. Troops assisted in the immediate evacuation of two injured civilians to the Mawanalla Hospital.
Currently, a military contingent (01 Officer and 15 Other Ranks) is on-site conducting clearance operations to locate missing persons believed to be trapped under the debris. Further, reinforcements comprising 01 Officer and 30 Other Ranks from the SL Army 8 SR are currently en route to the location to augment the rescue efforts.
