National Defence College holds Graduation Ceremony
November 27, 2025The National Defence College (NDC) held its graduation ceremony of Course No 04, at the Faculty of Graduate Studies Auditorium of General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) today (27 November). The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) attended the ceremony as the Chief Guest.
The Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General Chamila Munasinghe, received the Deputy Minister upon his arrival.
The ceremony saw the Deputy Minister conferring degrees upon 41 officers of the Tri-Services and Police, including 10 foreign military officers from India, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia and Oman.
The NDC proudly stands as the apex institution in the country's national security and strategic studies and as the highest seat of military learning.
Addressing the distinguished gathering, the Deputy Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring the basic needs of all citizens are met, reinforcing social stability and national confidence. He underscored the importance of guaranteeing the rights of every community and resolving disputes through peaceful, inclusive, and legitimate political processes.
Highlighting that stable governance allows competition for power to be managed democratically and nonviolently, he noted that such an environment, free from coercion and instability, enables the nation to direct its energy toward long-term development and strategic security.
Reflecting on Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic reforms, fiscal consolidation efforts, and administrative restructuring, he stressed that these gains must be safeguarded through strategic foresight, with a particular emphasis on the maritime domain. Drawing from his own experience, he reiterated that the absence of good governance undermines security and national stability, emphasizing that strong governance is essential for securing the nation and achieving its aspirations.
Defence Ministry officials, members of the diplomatic corps, former commanders, Vice Chancellor of the KDU, senior tri-forces and police officers and a large number of invitees were present at the occasion.
