Badulla District Disaster Management Committee Meets Under the Patronage of the Deputy Minister of Defence

The disastrous situation experienced across the country due to adverse weather conditions has also heavily impacted the Badulla District. To manage the prevailing situation, the Badulla District Disaster Management Committee, comprising high-level political and administrative officials convened yesterday (November 27) at 7:30 PM at the Badulla District Secretariat. During the meeting, extensive discussions were held on disaster mitigation, the provision of relief, and the rapid evacuation of those affected by the disaster.

The meeting was held under the joint chairmanship of the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), the Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, Hon. Samantha Vidyarathna, and the Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Dinandu Saman Kumara.

This meeting showcased the unified approach of all political and administrative stakeholders in the district and saw representation at the highest level. A large number of state officials participated, including the Governor of the Uva Province; Hon. Members of Parliament for the Badulla District, Ambika Samuel, Ravindra Bandara, and Sudath Balagalla; the District Secretary; senior officials of the Badulla Disaster Management Centre; senior officers from the Tri-Forces; Divisional Secretaries; senior Police officers; and state officials representing the relevant operational units.

During the session, officials discussed in detail the current disaster management situation in the Badulla District, focusing on the necessary precautionary measures required to immediately confront the crisis and mitigate the threats posed by floods and landslides. Special attention was given to the evacuation of individuals from high-risk areas, and instructions were issued to the Security Forces regarding these operations.
