Lanka Ashok Leyland Donates Vehicles to Support “Rebuild Sri Lanka” Initiative
December 06, 2025Lanka Ashok Leyland has donated a fleet of vehicles valued at over Rs. 65 million to support national recovery efforts under the Rebuild Sri Lanka programme, a government initiative aimed at restoring communities and infrastructure affected by recent adverse weather conditions.
The official handover took place today (06 December) at Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, H.E. Santosh Jha, and Chief Executive Officer of Lanka Ashok Leyland, Mr. Umesh Gautam, warmly welcomed all invitees to the occasion.
During the ceremony, vehicle keys were symbolically handed over to the Minister of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development, Hon. Sunil Handunneththi, and the Director General of the Disaster Management Centre, Major General Sampath Kotuwegoda (Retd).
Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), also participated in the event.
The donated fleet comprises a garbage compactor truck, Dost troop carrier, 6600-litre water bowser, vehicle carrier, Dost lorry, Dost van, and a tipper truck, which will support transportation, emergency assistance, reconstruction work, and humanitarian services in affected areas.
In addition, Lanka Ashok Leyland employees contributed two days’ salary, amounting to Rs. 2.5 million, to assist communities in urgent need.
Officials from Lanka Ashok Leyland reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s recovery and the rapid restoration of normalcy in affected regions. The event was attended by senior representatives from the High Commission of India, Lanka Ashok Leyland, and the Ministry of Defence.
