Army Intensifies Post-Disaster Assistance
December 10, 2025Demonstrating its continued commitment to national disaster-recovery operations, the Sri Lanka Army has deployed troops across several districts to support the restoration of essential public services and damaged infrastructure.
Army personnel of Security Force (Central) have been mobilized to Ambagasdowa, where they are assisting the operations of the local Water Purification centre, ensuring uninterrupted access to clean drinking water for affected communities. Similarly, troops have been stationed at the Silmiyapura Water Board facility to strengthen its ongoing efforts to maintain and stabilize water-supply services in the aftermath of the adverse weather conditions.
In addition teams from Security Force (Wanni) are currently undertaking urgent repairs to the Kebithigollewa–Ellewewa tank bund, a vital irrigation structure supporting agriculture and livelihoods in the region.
Meanwhile, Army personnel from Security Force (East) have also been deployed to Manampitiya to assist the restoration of the Colombo–Batticaloa railway line, helping expedite the resumption of safe and reliable rail transport along this key route.
Further, troops are engaged in the restoration of the Mahaweli River bank in the Neelapola area, an essential measure to prevent further erosion and safeguard nearby communities from potential flood risks.
These coordinated efforts reflect the Sri Lanka Army’s continued dedication to supporting national disaster-relief and recovery operations, working closely with relevant government agencies to restore vital services and stabilize affected regions.
