MOD Seva Vanitha Unit Launches New Year Welfare Initiatives
January 01, 2026The Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) of the Ministry of Defence (MOD) launched a series of welfare and community support initiatives today (01 January), under the guidance of its President, Dr. (Mrs.) Ruvini Rasika Perera.
Marking the New Year, the SVU donated ICU beds to the Base Hospital, Ampara and to a beneficiary, Mr. A.M.W. Bandara, with the aim of strengthening critical healthcare services. The donations were officially handed over by the President Seva Vanita Unit to Dr. Unani Fernando of the Base Hospital Ampara and the beneficiary.
Wheelchairs were also distributed among selected Tri-Service personnel to enhance mobility and improve quality of life.
Extending support to the education sector, the SVU donated school books to Dekatana Primary School. The books were handed over to the Principal Mrs. K.A.M.N. Kumarapeli in the presence of students. In addition, books were donated to the Ministry of Defence Library to further enrich its resources.
The event was attended by the Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), Senior Assistant Secretary (Parliament Affairs and Policy) Mrs. Priyangika Hewarathne, and members of the MOD Seva Vanitha Unit.
The initiatives reflect the SVU’s continued commitment to social responsibility, public welfare and community development in line with the Ministry of Defence’s vision.
