Defence Secretary Engages with War Veterans and War Hero
Families at Public Day

January 30, 2026

Demonstrating the Ministry of Defence’s continued dedication to the welfare of war veterans and War Hero families, Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) presided over the Public Day programme held at the Ministry premises today (30 January).

The Public Day offers an opportunity for retired and disabled war veterans, along with the families of fallen heroes, to present their grievances and welfare-related concerns directly to the Defence Secretary.

During the engagement, Air Vice Marshal Thuyacontha (Retd) carefully reviewed the issues raised and instructed relevant ministry officials to take necessary follow-up action to ensure timely and effective solutions. He stressed the importance of strengthening the implementation of existing welfare initiatives to better support the well-being of veterans and their families.

The Public Day programme is part of the Ministry of Defence’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality of life for war veterans and to honour the sacrifices made by service personnel and their families in safeguarding the nation.
