High Level Committee Reviews Progress of Foreign Relief Aid Coordination
February 27, 2026The High Level Committee for Foreign Relief Aid (Supplies) Coordination (HL-FRAC) convened another session yesterday (26 Feb) chaired by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) at his office in Colombo.
The meeting focused on reviewing the ongoing process of distributing foreign disaster relief assistance received from foreign countries and organizations to relevant government institutions. Ensuring transparency, accountability, and operational efficiency remained central to the deliberations.
Committee members noted that the distribution of relief supplies has now reached its final phase. Extensive discussions were held on maintaining procedural integrity and transparency throughout the remaining stages of the operation. Further instructions were issued regarding remaining goods in storage facilities. Officials were advised to identify institutional requirements and expedite the appropriate distribution of these items.
Emphasis was also placed on ensuring the accuracy of the data management system developed to streamline the receipt, storage, and distribution of foreign relief supplies. Relevant authorities were instructed to conduct necessary audits of the system to uphold data integrity.
Additionally, directives were given to facilitate the transfer of specialized equipment and items provided by foreign partners for disaster relief and rescue operations to the Tri Forces for operational use.
Highlighting the importance of inter-agency collaboration, the Deputy Minister underscored that strong coordination among all stakeholders is essential for the successful completion of the relief distribution process. He further reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness in managing foreign disaster relief assistance.
