75th Anniversary Medal Awarding Ceremony

The Sri Lanka Air Force marked its 75th Anniversary with a Medal Awarding Ceremony held at the Sri Lanka Air Force Headquarters today (3 March) as part of its anniversary celebration.
The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The Defence Secretary, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd), was also present at the ceremony.
The event paid tribute to the distinguished service, dedication, and sacrifices of SLAF personnel who have contributed to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity over the years. A number of officers and other ranks were decorated with medals in recognition of their exemplary performance, gallantry, and long-standing service.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest commended the Sri Lanka Air Force for its unwavering commitment to national security, disaster response operations, and humanitarian assistance efforts. He highlighted the vital role played by the SLAF not only in defending the country during challenging times but also in supporting national development initiatives.
The Defence Secretary also extended his appreciation to the men and women of the Air Force for their professionalism and continued dedication, noting that the 75-year milestone stands as a testament to the institution’s resilience, evolution, and service excellence.
The ceremony concluded with military formalities, reflecting the pride and rich heritage of the Sri Lanka Air Force as it steps into a new chapter of service to the nation.
