Sri Lanka Air Force 75th Anniversary Reception

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) hosted a reception yesterday (March 03) in view of its 75th Anniversary, commemorating over decades of distinguished and honorable service to the nation. The event, held at the Eagles’ Lakeside Banquet and Convention Hall in Attidiya last evening, celebrated the proud legacy forged through the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment of the men and women who have served their country with loyalty and selflessness.

The Deputy Minister of Defence, Major General Aruna Jayasekara (Retd), graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He was joined by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).

Upon arrival, the Deputy Minister of Defence, the Defence Secretary, and other distinguished guests were warmly received by the Air Force Commander, Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, and Mrs. Krishanthi Edirisinghe.

The ceremony commenced with a poignant "curtain raiser" presentation that showcased the SLAF’s storied history of safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty, specifically honoring the invaluable sacrifices of personnel in both combat and nation-building roles. One of the highlights was the launch of the commemorative coffee table book, "Legacy Above Clouds following the ceremonial cutting of the 75th anniversary cake. This book was gives a pictorial description of the SLAF’s 75-year evolution and aviation excellence. The evening culminated in a formal toast proposed by Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, honoring the enduring legacy of the past, present, and future "Guardians of the Skies."

The Marshal of the Air Force Roshan Gunathilake, Commanders of the Army and Navy along with their spouses, other distinguished guests, including the former Commanders of the Air Force, retired Senior Officers, Defence Ministry officials, members of the Air Force Board of Management along with their ladies, foreign dignitaries, a cross section of serving officers and other ranks, participated in this event.
