Advisory on cyclonic storm “YAAS”
May 24, 2021The Met. Department issuing an advisory on cyclonic storm said the deep depression located in the East Central Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm ‘YAAS’ and lay centred near latitude 16.3N and longitude 89.7E, on May 24 around 05.30 a.m.
It said the system is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by May 25 and will further intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours.
Accordingly, it is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach near west Bengal coasts by evening of May 26.
Met. Department advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into the East-Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining seas (08N-20N, 83E-100E) including the sea areas around the island until further notice.
