The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) nabbed 70 kilos of dried turmeric and 514 kilos of Kendu leaves with a suspect at the Vankalai beach area in Mannar yesterday (June 8).
According to the SLN, the North Central Naval Command seized the haul of Kendu leaves and dried turmeric those covered in nearby shrubs, following smuggled via sea.
The haul of Kendu leaves were found in 17 polythene sacks while the dried turmeric were caught in two polythene bags by the SLN led special operation squad.
The seizure was carried out adhering to the stipulated healthcare guidelines, the SLN confirmed.
The 41 year old suspect, resident of Erukkulampiddi area was handed over to the Vankalai Police Station for onward legal proceedings along with the seized items, the SLN added.
